night. There is an annual Thames Barge 'race' down the Orwell from here. Well, it's not really

a race, more of a gathering, a 'flotation' of barges, that starts and ends with a few pints in the

Butt and Oyster.

It was at Pin Mill that Arthur Ransome wrote his enduring children's favourite, 'We never meant
