For me the interest in this shot - the point of focus and composition - was originally the pink
house, standing out in a sea of grey slate and blue washed mews houses. But then I
noticed the half-obscured mural in the tiny back yard of the house below the pink one. A
wall painting (unusual in its day, the late 1960s), it appears to be a scene looking out
through a ruined wall to a landscape of hills and palm trees. The photograph was taken
from one of the student bars of Imperial College, looming over this quiet mews in London's
South Kensington; I wonder how much of this scene still exists, or even if that student's bar
is still there?
