framing suggestion:
For reasons that I can't now fathom (forgive the pun), I've always been convinced that I will
meet my end one day by drowning. I don't believe in the so-called paranormal, and I can't
imagine why I've always felt that, but as a consequence I've never been interested in going to
sea in, or owning, a small boat. A 30ft river cruiser maybe, an 8ft sailing dinghy, no thanks.
Perhaps I read somewhere that it was a not-too-unpleasant way of going, though how anyone
could possibly know that beats me. But I find boats themselves attractive and picture-worthy,
as you may be able to tell from the number of boat pictures on this site. And naval history is a
favourite topic (perhaps as a result of my early years in Portsmouth). And I can vaguely
remember as a kid being interested in joining the submarine service, but that fantasy soon
evaporated with the onset of serious childhood asthma. Nope, I'll stick to pictures.
