Britain gallery: St Francis

Despite my selecting just the hoopoe itself to be in focus (ie. intentionally!) the eye quickly

takes in the rest of the scene. I've recently noticed that all the Cathedrals I go to now have

art or sculpture displays by local or not so local artists, and often providing a venue for new

artists as did Winchester here with a travelling series of small but intense sculptures on stages

of grief, from shock through to salvation. I've forgotten who the artist was, but I have not

forgotten her work. On a more recent visit to Lille, we were delighted at the profusion of

beautiful art and sculpture in the very modern Cathédral Notre-Dame de la Treille, even

starting with the pietà on the front door.
