Another image of Maggie Hambling's iconic metal sculpture, 'Scallop', on

Aldeburgh beach, here with storm clouds gathering. As a cameraman for 25

years in film and television, I was rarely in a position to light the scene I was

shooting in a 'creative' way, given the nature of what I was working on - often

corporate videos and factual documentaries, with the odd commercial thrown in

to keep me solvent. Now that retirement has descended upon me, and a whole

panoply of Photoshop-type programmes are available that can influence the

final picture, I can experiment at my own pace until I'm happy with the result.

Usually my tweaking the image in an effects programme is limited to creating a

picture that still resembles something like the original shot scene, though this one

is a bit more extreme than most: it wasn't this dark and moody originally, but I

quite like it, if no-one else does.
