Bruno Cordati, born in Barga, Tuscany in 1890, and died there in 1979, having mostly
painted in Lucca but with spells of teaching art in Paris, Budapest and Bulgaria. His
home, Casa Cordati, in central Barga, is now a museum dedicated to his paintings
(which were never to be sold, according to the old man), The paintings - mostly in a
touchingly sombre style - have been curated by his grandson, who now looks after the
place. I believe Case Cordati also has rooms to rent, so it's doubly worth a visit, and
Barga is a pleasant Tuscany hill-top town worth a day or two of your time.
