'Before and After' image (Purton Hulks)
With the light tone to the grass, this looks as if it's an infrared shot, but it's not: by carefully manipulating the transition of the colour tones into B&W (and not just by selecting 'grey scale') the drama of the scene has been revealed. Also the original sky was overcast and bland, so that has been masked off to be replaced with one more in keeping with the rest of the image. As a result it has become one of my favourite black and whites. It seems that, by working at it, you can recover a picture from any negative, however dull it may seem at first!
