Barga bench

Seen in Barga, Tuscany (a favourite hill-top town as it's a bit bigger than most of the hill-tops

around, and you can get lunch there). The municipal authorities obviously take pride in their

town, as it's meticulously looked after - perhaps its strong links with Scotland helps, although

come to think of it that doesn't necessarily follow (take a look at Motherwell). This bench

would have been funnier had it been on a slant itself, or prettier with a more attractive

background, but I forebore from 'improving' the concrete as it's one of my wife's favourite

pictures of mine. She likes its simplicity and quirkyness. For me, I feel it lacks something, as is

the case with a few others of my pictures - perhaps a lost shoe underneath the bench, or

an elderly lady resting awhile, or even a pigeon perched on one of the arms...
