Another gloomy day on the East Coast, this time on the beach at Aldeburgh, Suffolk. But

the sun's just broken through the sea mist, and the gulls have been nailed to the perch to

stop them nicking your chips, so all's right with the world after all. I only discovered the

fourth gull after staring at the picture for ages - he suddenly popped into my focus lurking

there under the stern of the dinghy.

Aldeburgh also has one of the best fish and chip shops in Suffolk, always attracting long

queues. The town was also home for Benjamin Britten and 'Peter Grimes', and displays

Maggi Hambling's famous 'Scallop' statue further along the beach. 'Grimes' is often

performed here on the beach, in - this being Suffolk - all weathers. The gulls will nick your

chips in all weathers too.
