framing suggestion:
Having specialised in 'technical and scientific' photography (photomicroscopy,
infra-red/ultra violet, schlieren imaging, high-speed film, etc.), I effectively
missed out on the study of what constitutes a 'good' picture, if indeed it was
taught at all at Salisbury or Harrow, from where I 'graduated' (although
photography didn't have degree status at the time). So I came late to the
idea of the classic 'thirds' idea of composition, of which this picture must be
the ultimate example! I also came late to the study of the masters of
photography, and I'm still discovering them now: Roman Vishniac and Paul
Strand are my latest, but I can't help feeling that the book has now closed
on 'great' photographers, when every mobile phone comes with a high-spec
camera and every square inch of the planet's surface has been sprayed
with pixels. No praise is due to this picture, but I can tell you it's a very
calming one, framed and on the wall. It's at Dunwich, on the Suffolk coast.
