In an otherwise unremarkable church, St Peter's at Wenhaston, near the Suffolk coast, lies a mediaeval treasure... Said to be one of the finest 'Dooms' extant in Britain, and one of very few to have been painted on wooden panels, it was rescued (in 1892) only when overnight rain removed the whitewash and revealed the pile of firewood to be a priceless survivor of the cataclysm that was Henry VIII's 'Restoration'.
