Photography is an irregular occupation, often at the mercy of the elements, insufficient preparation or time, or even just a traffic jam.  Or luck.  Like all photographers who admit it, I've relied on the latter (or a chance discovery) for many of my images but for others I've resorted to digital chicanery of one sort or another to make the final picture. Even the great American landscape photographer Ansel Adams would exhort fellow photographers not to just 'take' the picture but to 'make' it. This doesn't render them fakes, any more than a Tribsa motorbike is a fake (it may have a BSA engine in a Triumph frame, or the other way round, but it's still a motorbike).  Most pictures on this site have been tweaked one way or another - a change of brightness here, a crop there, a bit of sharpening, local tone control, etc. - but this gallery, 'Poetic Licence', presents those images that, whilst retaining the essence of the original, have been more than lightly tweaked in order to become the creative composition that the original wasn't.   Prints and mounts from this section are made to the same exacting standards as the rest of our work, of course, and using the same light-fast papers and inks. Each image has a link to a 'before and after' comparison.
